Visits and visitor journeys
Visits lists everyone who came to your sites in the last 30 days, whether they chatted or not. A journey follows one person across all their visits.

The visit log
Each row is one visit: the Visitor, when it Started, the Path from landing page to last page, how many Pages, where they Came from, Where they were and their Device. Badges show who is online now and who chatted.
Narrow the list by:
- a name, email or your site's id for someone ("Visitors your site names");
- bot;
- the last 30 days, 7 days, 24 hours or today;
- whether they chatted.
Show crawlers and link checkers includes search engine crawlers and visits that never showed a sign of a person, such as email security tools that open links and leave. Insights never counts these.
A visit
Choose a visit to see:
- where they came from, including campaign tags, their place, device, language, time zone and bot;
- every page, in order;
- How they used each page: active time, how far they scrolled, how long it took to load, rage clicks, dead clicks and errors, and what they clicked;
- Goals and events they reached, marked "after chatting" when the chat came first.

A visitor's journey
Their journey shows everything one person did on your site, oldest first: each visit's pages, clicks, goals and chats in one timeline.

- Search for a page or a click, and show or hide Clicks, Goals and events and Chats.
- Only rage and dead clicks shows where they got stuck.
- Their heatmap on any page draws only this person's clicks on your page.
A journey covers up to 50 visits from the last 30 days and up to 20 chats from the last 12 months.
How visits join into one journey
Aura joins visits only through what it's been given, never by IP address:
| Joined by | When |
|---|---|
| Their chat | Once they've chatted, their browser keeps a token. |
| Your site's id for them | When your site passes data-visitor-id or calls Aura.setVisitor. Not verified. |
| Their browser's anonymous id | Only on bots with Recognise returning visitors on. |
Without any of these, a visit is a journey of one: the visitor isn't recognised the next day.
Recognise returning visitors
In your bot's Go live step, under Analytics, Recognise returning visitors keeps a random id in each visitor's browser for 30 days, so all their visits join up even if they never chat or sign in. It's off by default.
How long visits are kept
Visits, their pages and clicks are kept for 30 days, then deleted. Chats are kept 12 months. Insights keeps daily totals, which hold no visitor ids. See Privacy.
